This optional excursion will take place on the same day as the field trip to the Strict Reserve (included in conference ticket fee). Attendees will be able to join both field trip excursions if they wish.
The Bison Show Reserve is located on the Hajnówka-Białowieża road, approximately 3 km from Białowieża.
The ticket fee includes entrance ticket and bus transport.
Estimated duration: approx. 2 hours

Ticket numbers may be limited due to bus travel. If there is more demand organisers may be able to organise more transport and release more tickets.

36th European Mustelid Colloquium/Białowieża Ecology Conference

VWT is delighted to be working in partnership with the Mammal Research Institute Polish Academy of Sciences and Białowieża Ecology Conference to host the 2026 European Mustelid Colloquium in Poland in October 2026. The Białowieża Ecology Conference (BEC) is a series of international scientific conferences that aim to gather a better understanding of temperate forest ecosystems.

The EMC is a platform for presenting the latest scientific results and as a key forum for building networks, fostering community among researchers, and promoting collaborative scientific work. The conference enjoys enduring popularity among ecologists, zoologists, and conservation biologists, drawing around one hundred experienced scientists and students from around the world. For decades, the EMC has been held in various European locations and has successfully brought together researchers studying mustelids, one of the largest and most diverse groups of carnivorous mammals.

The EMC has a nearly seventy year history, and recent meetings have been led and co-organised by Vincent Wildlife Trust, a UK charity founded in 1975 that conserves threatened mammals through scientific research, evidence-led conservation interventions, monitoring, and public engagement. The Mammal Research Institute, PAS, a co-organiser and host of the 36th EMC, is a leading centre for mammal biology and ecology. With a strong tradition of research on carnivores, including mustelids, the Institute has advanced knowledge in ecology, physiology, morphology, and evolution, with particular focus on population dynamics, interspecies interactions, and adaptation to environmental change.

This joint initiative 36th EMC/BEC2026 offers a rare opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange, connecting experts in primary forest ecology with those specializing in the biology and ecology of small and medium-sized carnivores.
